WA cattle markets retreat, but lamb ahead of the pack

Near record lamb prices in WA continue to underline the insatiable export demand for red meat. Light, trade and heavy lambs rallied a further 45-70¢ in June to reach their 99th percentile levels, while mutton markets eased 70¢ month-on-month on the back of poor rainfall conditions. Cow markets also lost some ground in June while heavy yearlings finished the month only 2¢ below the all-time high, at 237¢/kg lwt.
