Mecardo last looked at the difference between carding and combing prices (basis) in April, when the basis was indicating likely strength in combing wool prices. That proved to be correct and even though combing wool prices have fallen in the past month they remain above April levels. This article takes a longer view of the basis, and briefly considers changes in how the wool market has operated in recent years.
