Following a temporary break in drought conditions across the east coast, a revival in store cattle demand and stronger processor rates, the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) rallied 74¢ in January. It broke several records along the way and finished the month at 450.25¢/kg cwt. At the state level, Queensland is undoubtedly the best performer, followed closely by NSW. Victoria remains well behind.
