It’s cold in Russia, real cold: local grain basis weakens

Usually when oil prices fall, agricultural commodities follow suit. We saw this to an extent on Friday night but wheat well and truly trod its own path, rallying 21¢ to a three-month high of 579¢/bu (figure 3). Unfortunately for Australian growers in the middle of harvest, this didn’t really translated into higher prices yesterday, with basis being squeezed.
