How are weaner prices faring in Tasmania this year?

The Tasmanian weaner sales season kick started in Powranna two weeks ago with overall prices higher year-on-year, particularly for stock above 280kg lwt. As in 2013, restocker demand for lighter categories remains relatively patchy. Backgrounder and lot feeder demand, on the other hand, is seemingly firmer to see stock above 330kg trade at a 27¢, or 16%, premium to young cattle in southern markets.
