Grain markets in 2014 – softer A$ and strong basis support local markets

Despite the rising global grain and oilseed prices until May, waning production concerns and revived expectation for record supplies and ending stocks sent grain prices into a strong downturn in the second half of 2014. After reaching multi-year lows in early October, international markets recovered considerably in the last months of the year. Higher global prices, coupled with strong local basis and the lower A$, saw domestic grain markets finish 2014 on a positive note.
