Dwindling margins or dwindling feeder supply

Last week we looked at the ALFA/MLA Cattle on Feed survey, and found that the main factor behind the lower number of cattle on feed was very small placements. This week we follow up by looking at lot feeding margins, to see if smaller placements have been driven lower margins and therefore weaker demand, or whether the cattle are simply not out there.
