Blame the weather, thank China

The stubbornly high sheep offtake and strengthening export demand helped mutton exports to increase a further 27% in 2013/14 after surging 62% in 2012/13. At 183,232 tonnes swt, total mutton shipments are more than double from the lows of 2010/11 and 2011/12, equating to a record A$744 million. That’s a whopping 56% increase in export value compared to 2012/13.
