A neglected wool production factor

The focus on wool production estimates for the Australian wool clip tends to focus on sheep numbers. In practice wool production is a function of sheep numbers and wool production per head. The official greasy fleece weight has oscillated between 4.2 and 4.5 greasy kg per head for the past 25 years, which seems unbelievable given the change in flock structure that has taken place in terms of breeds and lamb production. This article takes a different approach to estimating wool production per head.
